Jason Kenney is the new leader of the party

Delegates from across the province cast their ballots this afternoon to determine the next leader of the party. It was the first time in over 30 years that the leader of the party was chosen by delegates. At the 2016 AGM, party members moved away from the one member one vote system, in favour of a delegated convention.
Speaking to reporters after the announcement, PC Alberta president Katherine O’Neill said that today’s vote was a reflection of the will of party members.
“We are a member-driven organization and the will of our members is supreme.” Said O’Neill. “After our defeat in 2015 our members told us to change and we took that message to heart. That is why we committed to ensuring that this race was conducted in a fair, open, honest and transparent process.”
“I’d also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Kenney on his election. I look forward to working with him to execute the mandate that has been given to us here today by our members. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank both Dr. Starke and Mr. Nelson for their commitment to our party and for putting their names forward.”
The election of Jason Kenney as leader of the party reflects a desire to seek unity with the Wildrose. A Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for tomorrow morning to establish the next steps.
“Tomorrow the Board will meet to welcome Jason and to discuss the way forward,” said O’Neill. “I want to take a moment to send a message to all members. I know that this election has had its share of ups and downs but I ask that we all come together and move forward. I also want to acknowledge and thank, from the bottom of my heart, all the incredibly hardworking and dedicated volunteers and staff who made this election possible. From the convention organizing committee, to our constituency board, to the Leadership Election Committee and everyone in between; thank you!”
